San Diego Museum of Natural History

The San Diego Natural History Museum is located in beautiful Balboa Park, just minutes from downtown, and offers a unique and memorable venue for any event. Multi-level exhibition and event spaces allow you and your guests to explore galleries that illustrate the science and beauty of nature while enjoying an unforgettable evening. Whether you are planning a seated dinner for 100 or a reception-style party for 1400, we will transform the Museum to meet your vision.

The Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to interpreting the natural world through research, education and exhibits. When you hold your event at the Museum, your support helps us to meet our mission to inspire in all, a respect for nature and the environment.

THE VENUE SPACE

Sefton Atrium

The Sefton Atrium is a stunning and versatile space with a four-story translucent ceiling and granite floor. At  5000 square feet, the Atrium can accommodate up to 270 guests for a seated dinner and up to 500 for a reception. If the addition of the second-story mezzanine is used, dinner seating can increase to 315 and the reception to 700.

El Mirador Rooftop Terrace

With a spectacular view of Balboa Park, the downtown skyline, east to the mountains, south to Mexico and the San Diego Bay, this rooftop deck is a stunning location. The outdoor space is 2,600 square feet and can accommodate 100 guests for a seated dinner, up to 200 guests for a reception or 180 for a ceremony.

Charmaine and Maurice Kaplan Theater

The 3,800 square foot, 300-seat theater provides a comfortable, versatile venue for lectures, symposiums, wedding ceremonies, concerts and films. With a large-formal screen and Dolby Digital Sound, the theater has multi-media capabilities and state–of-the-art acoustics and technology.
